The first of the morning sun over Shutlingsloe

Why would you be anywhere else?..”

A special night, celebrating a special day.

Just imagine, it’s a warm August evening and you’re at a trig point on top of the world, overlooking the whole of Greater Manchester.

In the distance, the vivid oranges and pinks of A 180° sunset make way for a broad strip of twinkling urban lights; three million people, living their individual Friday night.

Meanwhile, you and a friend enjoy the total peace of your cosy moor top, only interrupted by the squark of a neighbouring grouse.

With darkness fast approaching, it’s time to light the candles for birthday celebrations, enjoy a chocolate cake and finish a tot of rhubarb gin (keeping the candles alight and singing happy birthday is multi-tasking at it’s best!)

Settling down for the night, the shimmering stars overhead add to your light display. Soon, with the silvery moon joining the party, it’s like sleeping with the light on.

Now, you’re waking up as dawn breaks. It’s surprisingly cold and windy after the calm evening before and it’s time to reluctantly leave the warmth of your sleeping bag.

Not for long though; after making a steaming cup of tea, the perfect way to admire the glorious start to the new day is snuggled back in, surrounded by the quilted softness, with more cake (but with oats and jam this time so it’s really breakfast, honest!).

As the birthday girl said, “Why would you be anywhere else?”
