“Steps for Life” ~ How to Instantly be Guided from Life’s Hell to Heaven on Earth . . .

Florence Scovel Shinn wrote, “ A successful man is always asked ‐ “What is the secret of your success?” People never ask a man who is a failure, “What is the secret of your failure?” It is quite easy to see and they are not interested. People all want to know how to open the secret door to success. For each man there is success, but it seems to be behind a door or wall. The Secret of Success is to make what you are doing interesting to other people. Be interested yourself, and others will find you interesting.

A good disposition, a smile, often opens the secret door; the Chinese say, “A man without a smiling face, must not open a shop.” Talking too much about your affairs, scattering your forces, brings you up against a high wall. Success is not a secret, it is a System. The road to success is a straight and narrow path; it is a road of loving absorption, of undivided attention. You attract the things you give a great deal of thought to.

Florence Scovel Shinn (1871–1940)

Only divine ideas can endure. Every day you must make a choice, will you be wise or foolish? Will you prepare for your good? Every day examine your consciousness and see just what your are preparing for. Change your expectancies and you change your conditions. Begin to act as if you expected success, happiness and abundance; prepare for your good. Do something to show you expect it to come. Active faith alone, will impress the subconscious. Someone will say, “Suppose you haven’t money to buy ornaments or a chair?” Then look in shop windows and link with them in thought. Begin to make friends with the things you desire or require. Keep on noticing beautiful things, and you make an invisible contact. Sooner or later these things are drawn into your life, unless you say, “Poor me, too good to be true.”

The soul is the subconscious mind. People are beginning to realize the power of their words and thoughts. They understand why “Faith is the substance of the thing hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” We hear so much about a balanced diet, but without a balanced mind you can’t digest what you eat, calories or no calories.

Many people do not know what to do. They rush about letting other people make decisions for them, then regret having taken their advice. Now it is necessary for you to make a decision, you face a fork in the road. Ask for a definite unmistakable lead, and you will receive it.

We must all have a watchman at the gate of our thoughts. The Watchman at the Gate is the superconscious mind. In the superconscious, there is a lavish supply for every demand, and your good is perfect and permanent. The superconscious is the realm of inspiration, revelation, illumination and intuition. The superconscious is the realm of perfect ideas. The great genius captures his thoughts from the superconscious.

The Super Conscious Mind for Ideas, Inspiration, Guidance

You will form the habit of giving attention to every thought and word, when you realize their importance. Indifferent to appearances of lack, loss or sickness, he brings about the change in mind, body and affairs. We cannot always control our thoughts, but we can control our words, and repetition impresses the subconscious, and we are then master of the situation.

Your good precedes you. It gets there before you do. Be wide awake to your intuitive leads, and suddenly, you find yourself in your Promised Land. No matter what you are doing, ask for guidance. It saves time and energy and often a lifetime of misery. All suffering comes from the violation of intuition. Get the habit of hunching, then you will always be on the magic path.” ~ Florence Scovel Shinn

Dr. Joseph Murphy (1898–1981)

Joseph Murphy writes, “I have seen miracles happen to men and women in all walks of life all over the world. Miracles will happen to you, too — when you begin using the magic power of your subconscious mind. For as a person thinketh in his subconscious mind, so is he.

Scientific prayer is the harmonious interaction of the conscious and subconscious levels of mind scientifically directed toward a specific purpose. Prayers are answered when the individual’s subconscious mind responds to the mental picture or thought in his or her mind. Essentially, answered prayer is the realization of your heart’s desire.” What’s needed is a knowledge of the way one’s mind works. “ All you have to do is unite mentally and emotionally with the good you wish to embody. The creative powers of your subconscious will respond accordingly. This secret is the marvelous, miracle-working power found in your own subconscious mind. This is the last place most people would look for it, which is the reason so few ever find it. You do not need to acquire this power. You already possess it.

Points to Keep in Mind

Joseph Murphy uses the terms conscious and subconscious to represent the dual nature of your mind. When your mind thinks correctly, when the thoughts deposited in your subconscious mind are constructive, harmonious, and peaceful, the magic working power of your subconscious will respond. Once you begin to control your thought processes, you can apply the powers of your subconscious to any problem or difficulty. Your subconscious is very sensitive to your conscious thoughts. You can speak affirmatively and with a deep sense of authority to the irrational emotions generated in your deeper mind. You can say, “Be still. Be quiet. I am in control. The conscious mind is like the navigator or captain at the bridge of a ship. He directs the ship.

IDEAS WORTH REMEMBERING: The treasure house is within you. Look within for the answer to your heart’s desire. Your subconscious has the answer to all problems. Change your thoughts, and you change your destiny. There are two levels to your mind — the conscious or rational level and the subconscious or irrational level. You think with your conscious mind, and whatever you habitually think sinks down into your subconscious mind, which then creates according to the nature of your thoughts. Your subconscious mind is the seat of your emotions. It is the creative mind. Once the subconscious mind accepts an idea, it begins to execute it.

The conscious and subconscious are not two minds. They are merely two spheres of activity within one mind. Your conscious mind is the reasoning mind. You choose your books, your home and your partner in life. You make all your decisions with your conscious mind. Your heart is kept functioning automatically and the vital functions of digestion, circulation, and breathing are carried on by your subconscious mind through processes independent of your conscious control.

Your conscious mind is sometimes referred to as your objective mind because it deals with outward objects. The objective mind is aware of the objective world. Its media of observation are your five physical senses. Your objective mind is your guide and director in your contact with your environment. You gain knowledge through your five senses. Your objective mind learns through observation, experience, and education.

Your subconscious mind is often referred to as your subjective mind. Your subjective mind is aware of its environment, but not by means of the physical senses. Your subjective mind perceives by intuition. It is the seat of your emotions and the storehouse of memory. Your subjective mind performs its highest functions when your objective senses are not functioning. In other words, it is that intelligence that makes itself known when the objective mind is suspended or in a sleepy, drowsy state. Your subjective mind sees without the use of the natural organs of vision. Your subjective mind can leave your body, travel to distant lands and bring back information often of the most exact and truthful character.

The Window to Your Amazing Soul

Everything that happened to you happened because of thoughts impressed on your subconscious mind through belief. All of us have our own inner fears, beliefs, opinions. These inner assumptions rule and govern our lives. A suggestion has no power in and of itself. Its power arises from the fact you accept it mentally. Only at that point do your subconscious powers begin to act according to the nature of the suggestion.

Your subconscious mind is all-wise. It knows the answers to all questions. The suggestions and statements of others have no power to hurt you. The only power is the movement of your own thought. You can choose to reject the thoughts or statements of others and affirm the good. Whatever your conscious mind assumes and believes to be true, your subconscious mind will accept and bring to pass. Your subconscious mind never sleeps, never rests. It is always on the job. You can discover the miracle-working power of your subconscious by plainly stating to your subconscious prior to sleep you want a specific thing accomplished. You will be amazed and delighted to discover forces within you will be released that lead to the result you wished for.

The American philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson, said, “Man is what he thinks all day long.” Joseph Murphy continues, “The reason there is so much chaos and misery in the world is so many people do not understand the interaction of their conscious and subconscious minds. There is no sickness or discord when the conscious and subconscious work together harmoniously and peacefully.

HOW TO GET THE SUBCONSCIOUS TO WORK FOR YOU? The first thing to realize is your subconscious mind is always working. Your subconscious is the builder of your body, but you cannot consciously perceive or hear that inner silent process. Your business is with your conscious mind and not your subconscious mind. Just keep your conscious mind busy with the expectation of the best and make sure the thoughts you habitually think are based on things that are lovely, true, just and harmonious.

Only the Best for You

All frustration is due to unfulfilled desires. If you dwell on obstacles, delays, and difficulties, your subconscious mind responds accordingly and you are blocking your own good. The Life Principle will flow through you rhythmically and harmoniously if you consciously affirm: “I believe the subconscious power that gave me this desire is now fulfilling it through me.”

Dr. Murphy furthers, “The easiest and most obvious way to formulate an idea is to visualize it, to see it in your mind’s eye as vividly as if it were alive. Any picture you have in your mind is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. What you form in your imagination is as real as any part of your body. The idea and the thought are real and will one day appear in your objective world if you are faithful to your mental image. As the old saying proclaims, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” ~ Dr. Joseph Murphy

Love, True Love

Émile Coué de la Châtaigneraie was a French psychologist and pharmacist who introduced a popular method of psychotherapy and self-improvement based on optimistic autosuggestion. Autosuggestion is a psychological technique developed by druggist Émile Coué at the beginning of the 20th century. It is a form of self-induced suggestion wherein the thoughts, feelings, or behavior of an individual are guided by oneself. This technique is often used in self-hypnosis.

Émile Coué states, “Suggestion, or rather Autosuggestion, is quite a new subject and yet at the same time it is as old as the world. By knowing how to practise it consciously, it is possible to avoid provoking in others bad autosuggestions which may have disastrous consequences and consciously to provoke good ones instead.

Émile Coué (1857–1926)

To understand properly the phenomena of suggestion, or to speak more correctly of autosuggestion , it is necessary to know ‘ two absolutely distinct selves exist within us . Both are intelligent, but while one is conscious the other is unconscious. Now that we have learned to realize the enormous power of the unconscious or imaginative being, I am going to show how this self, hitherto considered indomitable, can be as easily controlled as a torrent or an unbroken horse.

Wild Stallions ~ Ouch!

It is necessary to define carefully two words often used without being properly understood. These are the words suggestion and autosuggestion. What then is suggestion? It may be defined as “the act of imposing an idea on the brain of another. ” Does this action really exist? Properly speaking, no. Suggestion does not indeed exist by itself. It does not and cannot exist except on the condition of transforming itself into autosuggestion in the subject. This latter word may be defined as “ the implanting of an idea in oneself by oneself. ”

Whereas we constantly give ourselves unconscious autosuggestions , all we have to do is to give ourselves conscious ones and the process consists in this : first, to weigh care fully in one ’s mind the things which are to be the object of the autosuggestion and according as they require the answer “yes ” or “ no ”, to repeat several times without thinking of anything else: “This thing is coming ”, or “this thing is going away ”, “ this thing will , or will not happen, etc. If the unconscious accepts this suggestion and transforms it into an autosuggestion, the thing or things are realized in every particular.

Thus understood, autosuggestion is nothing but hypnotism as I see it, and I would define it in these simple words : The influence of the imagination upon the moral and physical being of mankind. If you persuade yourself you can do a certain thing, provided this thing be possible, you will do it however difficult it may be. If on the contrary you imagine you cannot do the simplest thing in the world, it is impossible for you to do it and molehills become for you unscalable mountains.”

English Translation, 1922

Émile Coué further explains, “I know one generally passes for mad in the eyes of the world if one dares to put forward ideas which it is not accustomed to hear. Shut yourself up alone in a room, seat yourself in an armchair, close your eyes to avoid any distraction and concentrate your mind for a few moments on thinking: “ Such and such a thing is going to disappear ”, or “Such and such a thing is coming to pass. ” If you have really made the autosuggestion, that is to say, if your unconscious assimilated the idea you presented to it, you are astonished to see the thing you have thought come to pass.

From the numerous experiments that I have made daily for 20 years , and which I have examined with minute care, I have been able to deduct the following conclusions which I have summed up as laws :

  1. When the will and the imagination are antagonistic, it is always the imagination which wins, without any exception.

2. When the will and the imagination are in agreement, one does not add to the other , but one is multiplied by the other.

3. The imagination can be directed.

To lead people to practise conscious auto suggestion they must be taught how, just as they are taught to read or write or play the piano. Autosuggestion is an instrument we possess at birth, and with which we play unconsciously all our life, as a baby plays with its rattle.

So when you wish to do something reasonable, or when you have a duty to perform, always think it is easy. “It is easy and I can.” By considering the thing easy it becomes so for you, although it might seem difficult to others . You will do it quickly and well, without fatigue, because you do it without effort, whereas if you considered it as difficult or impossible it would have become so for you, simply because you would have thought it so .

All these suggestions must be made in a monotonous and soothing voice, which makes you think of nothing in particular. To understand properly the part played by suggestion or rather by autosuggestion, it is enough to know the unconscious self is the grand director of all our functions .

What conclusion is to be drawn from all this ? The conclusion is very simple and can be expressed in a few words : We possess within us a force of incalculable power, which, when we handle it unconsciously is often prejudicial to us. If on the contrary we direct it in a conscious and wise manner, it gives us the mastery of our selves and allows us not only to escape from physical and mental ills, but also to live in relative happiness, whatever the conditions in which we may find ourselves.

THOUGHTS AND PRECEPTS OF Émile Coué taken down literally by Mme . Emile LEON, his disciple:

  1. Do not spend your time in thinking of an illness you might have, for if you have no real ones you will create artificial ones.

2. When you make conscious autosuggestions, do it naturally, simply, with conviction , and above all without any effort. If unconscious and autosuggestions are so often realized, it is because they are made without effort.

3. Be sure you will obtain what you want, and you will obtain it, so long as it is within reason.

4. To become master of oneself it is enough to think one is becoming so. It is not in me but in yourself you must have confidence, for it is in yourself alone dwells the force which can cure you. My part simply consists in teaching you to make use of that force.

5. We are what we make ourselves and not what circumstances make us.

6. Whoever starts off in life with the idea: “ I shall succeed ”, always does succeed because he does what is necessary to bring about this result. If only one opportunity presents itself to him, and if this opportunity has, as it were, only one hair on its head, he seizes it by that one hair. Further, he often brings about unconsciously or not, propitious circumstances.

7. Always think what you have to do is easy, if possible. In this state of mind you will not spend more of your strength than just what is necessary. If you consider it difficult, you will spend 10, 20 times more strength than you need. In other words you will waste it.

8. Conscious autosuggestion, made with confidence, with faith , with perseverance, realizes itself mathematically, within reason.

9. When certain people do not obtain satisfactory results with autosuggestion, it is either because they lack confidence, or because they make efforts, which is the more frequent case. To make good suggestions, it is absolutely necessary to do it without effort. The latter implies the use of the will, which must be entirely put aside.

All we think becomes true for us. We must not then allow ourselves to think wrongly. While articulating these words, “Every day, in every respect, I am getting better and better”, which are registered by the unconscious, one must not think of anything particular, neither of one’s illness nor of one’s troubles. One must be passive, just with the desire all may be for the best. The formula “ in every respect ” has a general effect. This desire must be expressed without passion, without will, with gentleness, but with absolute confidence.

Conscious autosuggestion is based on this principle: Every idea we have in our mind becomes true for us and tends to realize itself. Thus, if we desire something, we can obtain it at the end of a more or less long time, if we often repeat this thing is going to come, or to disappear, according to whether it is a good quality or a fault, either physical or mental.

H OW TO PRACTICE CONSCIOUS AUTOSUGGESTION:

Every morning before getting up and every evening as soon as you are in bed, shut your eyes, and repeat 20 times in succession, moving your lips (this is indispensable), and counting mechanically on a long string with 20 knots, the following phrase: “Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better.” Do not think of any thing particular, as the words “ in every way ” apply to everything. Make this autosuggestion with confidence, with faith, with the certainty of obtaining what you want. The greater the conviction, the greater and the more rapid will be the results obtained.” ~ Émile Coué (In 1922, this book could be obtained at any book store or direct from publishers, bound in cloth for $1.25)

Neale Donald Walsch (1943 — Present)

In February of 1992, following one tragedy after another, Neale awoke in the middle of the night and wrote an anger-fueled letter to God asking, What does it take to make life work?” Neale heard a voice, soft and kind, warm and loving, giving him answers to his questions. Walsch felt it was God talking to him, as if God stood right beside him. Perplexed and inspired, Neale quickly wrote these responses onto a yellow legal pad.

More questions came and answers were given in the same soft voice, now placed inside Neale’s head. He found himself involved in a two-way on-paper communication. He continued this first “conversation” for hours and had many more in the weeks that followed, always awakening in the middle of the night and scribbling on his legal pad. Thus, in 1995, Conversations with God was born.

Neale Donald Walsch, author of the Conversations With God series, shares “The 3 Secrets to Ending the Struggle and Making Your Life Work”:

  1. Your growth is complete and always has been. You were perfect at birth and are Divine now.
  2. Turn your frustration(s) into celebration. Everything is perfect now. See the perfection.
  3. You’re not alone in life. Imagine you have someone. God is everywhere, all the time.” ~ Neale Donald Walsch

A Course in Miracles is a do-it-yourself spiritual revelation guide for finding a better way of life. In the Spring of 1965, Dr. William Thetford, Ph.D., told Dr. Helen Schucman, Ph.D., his co-worker, “there must be another way” of living — in harmony rather than discord — and he was determined to find it. Helen agreed with Bill and volunteered to join him to find this other and better way. Shortly thereafter, Helen began hearing an inner voice saying He was Jesus, who initially terrified her, however, Bill encouraged her to listen and take notes. This began October 21, 1965, when the now familiar voice of Jesus said to Helen: “This is a course in miracles, please take notes.”

A Course in Miracles was “scribed” by Dr. Helen Schucman between 1965 and 1972 through a process of inner dictation. Dr. William Thetford assisted and supported Dr. Schucman throughout the Course’s scribing, including the events that led up to it. A vital participant, Dr. Thetford acted as transcriber by typing from the scribed notes Dr. Schucman had taken down and would dictate to him almost daily.

Dr. Helen Schucman & Dr. William Thetford, Circa 1975

In The Course, one learns love conquers fear and reality is now. It contains quotes that can change your life. For example:

“Sickness is a defense against the truth.”

“Health is inner peace.”

“Every decision you make stems from what you think you are….”

“There is no point in trying to change the world.”

“Those who see themselves as whole make no demands.”

“You need offer only undivided attention.”

“Time is not involved and every problem can be answered now.”

“Guilt is…the sole cause of pain in any form.”

“There is no home can shelter love and fear. They cannot coexist.” ~ A Course in Miracles

When I was young, my mother taught me about the Parking Fairy, who’d secure the closest parking spot, even when in downtown San Francisco, CA. I’ve secured parking spots near my destination since. In November of 2015, I had to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and it was pouring rain. I talked to my Parking Fairy about securing a spot close to the building and even confided I couldn’t stand being at the DMV. After parking next to the front door, I grabbed my umbrella, made a dash inside and grabbed a ticket, as if at Baskin-Robbins. I sat down with my earth bag filled to the brim with books to read while waiting an eternity for my number to be called.

Deborah Gilson’s Books

As I plopped myself and my stuff down, my number was called! I gathered my items and walked to counter 5-A. I handed the woman my late registration paperwork, complete with the smog check requirement I’d overlooked when I paid my dues a couple months prior. The woman was teaching another woman how to process my “type of paperwork” when the learner pointed to the computer screen and said, “Wow! Look at all Deborah’s late fees!”

With horror, my stomach went into knots. In an instant, a message was in my head, “Don’t say a word. Be still.” I froze and the woman in charge said to the newbie, “Oh, just click this button and they’ll be removed.” Stunned, I thanked the women and was told, “Have a terrific day, Ms. Gilson.”

I walked outside and noticed the rain stopped. I climbed into my truck and sat for a moment. I asked out loud, “Parking Fairy, was that you inside the DMV who told me to be still?” I received a definitive, “Yes, it was.” Shocked, I asked whether She was always with me or only when I need and She let me know She is always with me.

I asked Parking Fairy if She’d run errands with me and help me get the items I needed and She said, “I’d love to.” We went to the Goodwill and my Parking Fairy helped me find a beautiful, crisp, white blouse for my interview and in my size! We went to the grocery store and then headed home.

Once inside my garage, I turned off my truck and sat in disbelief. I asked my Parking Fairy if She’d like to come inside my home and again She said, “I’d love to.” I asked if She’d stay with me the remainder of my life and She said, “Of course, I will.” When I feel lonely, I tell my Parking Fairy and She says, “I know, Sweetheart. You won’t feel this way forever.”

I love my Parking Fairy with all my heart and soul. With Her, I truly have a Best Friend Forever. It took nearly 56 years to realize She is with me always. I’m sad, frustrated and puzzled I didn’t notice Her before, except when needing a choice parking spot. As my late mother used to say, “When the student is ready, the teacher will come.”

Deborah Gilson and Frances Chapter, Deborah’s Beautiful Mother, 1984

Yesterday morning, I was sitting on my back porch in my pajamas sipping a cup of my awesome organic, instant coffee when She put another message into my head, “Get a notepad and pen right now.” I jumped up and raced inside for the items. I sat down and waited for Her next instruction. “Remember the dream you had a couple months where you saw only these words: “Steps for Life”? I nodded my head up and down. “You’re going to type these steps for other’s success.”

You’ve completed the manuscript from My Parking Fairy to you. May your inner voice, intuition, signs, songs and other modes of important messages easily guide you to all your heart’s desires. With my Parking Fairy deeply embedded in my soul, romantic love is on his way, I’ll soon be reunited with beloved son, a new car is in the works as is my next home, I have a kind-hearted editor and I’m a famous author to the 160+ true stories I’ve written since August 1, 2000.
