Life is about relating to people, connecting with people. There are different ways to get close to people and if feelings don’t turn sour or bitter as a result of these ways of getting close then it’s okay to continue our ways. I think more leeway needs to be accepted in what relationships we have because we are all people, as long as there is common sense and no abuse, no causing psychological problems, why should we keep ourselves from certain people due to age or social class or level of education or what life experiences we’ve had (or lack)?
