The Difference Between Walking in Istanbul and in Moscow

It looks like Istanbul is currently having its biggest snowstorm. It’s been snowing since yesterday evening. I wish those in charge of the city would put salt and sand on the streets and sidewalks to make walking on them easy. In Boston, people never failed to throw salt and sand on the ground with snow like this, in particular in the central areas. There used to be vehicles that would distribute sand and salt. I really miss that about Boston. Walking in the snow like in Istanbul now wouldn’t be a problem for me if there were salt. Personally, snow doesn’t excite me. I’ve grown up with lower temperatures and more snow than what I see even in Istanbul at the moment; it’s nothing special and it’s only a nuisance for me.

It was nice to start my morning walking on the coast, almost covered completely white with snow (with hardly a single soul).

The feeling I had while doing that is a feeling I used to have when I lived in Moscow and went to a different park every weekend to take long walks. I used to be fine alone in Moscow because all I had to do was take the metro to one of Moscow’s beautiful parks and walk and walk and walk.

Everyone, Moscow has more than 90 parks and they were big and absolutely gorgeous parks. I still remember walking around my favorite parks there, forgetting for a moment that I resided in Russia’s biggest city.

To be honest, I haven’t felt the same peace in Istanbul. This morning was a rare one for me in Istanbul.

In Moscow, I felt more positive. I nodded at fellow walkers at the parks I used to take time in.

Istanbul is a completely different kettle of fish. Some people have said that every city was the same but I don’t think so. I feel different in every city I’m in. I feel that every city is different.

l look forward to getting up tomorrow to take another walk on the coast here in Istanbul. To see not another soul as a way to start off my day.

At least that’s one good thing about the big snowstorm in Istanbul: Walking and not seeing as many people as before on layers of white.

(The following day…)

I walked on the coast this morning. Most of the snow has melted. I didn’t have the same peaceful feeling this morning as I did yesterday when I walked on the coast. I would love to have that same peaceful feeling I had yesterday again… I miss it.

I also like walking on the coast when it drizzles. No one is on the coast in the morning when it rains. I had the same peaceful feeling this morning. Walking in the rain on the coast. It’s worth doing.
