The Decred Drive (June 25)
Welcome to The Decred Drive. Every Thursday this brief newsletter highlights top-notch Decred content from the previous week.
Bit of a quiet week this week, but let’s dig in. Several happenings of note in the Decred community. The Decred community is always buzzing…
- Nice post from Noah Pierau arguing that in order to fully understand Decred we must analyze them as complex cybernetic systems. Worth reading through and reflecting on this Reddit post. In addition to being able to smoothly change the rules that the technical layer will enforce, Decred’s social layer also has the power to change the system’s raison d’être. This can happen in an orderly fashion (amending the the Decred constitution) or in a chaotic way (changing the narrative). Let that sink in. Decred is indeed a complex cybernetic system.
- Jim T reminds us that that stock-to-flow modeling is indeed relevant to Decred and something to which we should be paying attention. Many of the PoW assets have adhered to the S2F theory articulated by PlanB, but only time will tell how the S2F relationship plays out longer term.

3. Top notch contributions to The Network from Decred’s own Richard Red. Very impressive. Covers an example of the breakdown of transaction types per one block on the Decred chain: using data for block 458,101 (Jun 13 2020), 41.5% of transactions are regular, 29.5% are ticket buys, and 28.3% are votes — with 0.06% of transactions related to revoking tickets that failed to vote (missed or expired).Another important point to understand about Decred is that locking DCR for tickets is an action that tells us something about the holder who performs it. This action represents some degree of long-term commitment and, for those who use their tickets to participate in voting on consensus and Politeia proposals, an interest in the how the network is run. Ticket price keep rising..
4. Richard Red also reminds us of the many ways in which owning tickets empowers HODLers of $DCR. If you haven’t already it’s crucial to understand your rights as a ticket holder, read about them here.
5. On June 30th, make sure to tune into Decred Webinar: Sociology, The Future of Work and Incentive Alignment. Lots of great panelist for this one, including Ellie Rennie from RMIT University. Thanks for joining Ellie!
6. Elian Huesca was featured in Coin Telegraph this week, claiming that BTC, ETH, and DCR is part of the largest economic and technological revolution of our generation. I’d have to agree with Elian here =). He’s not wrong!
7. Some more great artwork form AGNFAB. I really like this stuff…

8. I’ll leave you folks with a nice tweet from a newer Decred advocate, Klara Kerr: OK so let me get this straight…People are starting to understand Decred’s value. Exciting times. New community members chiming in every week!
That’s all for this week. Join us. Be part of a real DAO — the Decred DAO.
