The “I Don’t Feel Like It” Fallacy
Darya Rose, Ph.D

Wow. This is pretty intense. I occasionally use “I don’t feel like it” and never think past that thought for more than 2 seconds. Mostly because it seems pretty normal to not feel like doing something. I mean really, who wants to do anything at all, ever. Especially if asked “would you like to do the dishes? How about taking out the garbage too”

But we do those things anyway. If you don’t, then you’re just an unhelpful jerk (not you of course).

Overall, especially if you’re typically a doer and a worker, then by all means “not feeling like it” is completely normal and a valid excuse as a human being. Healthy habits are over-valued. We should be comfortable with our occasional derivative behaviors and not label them as imperfections.
