CARING FOR THE SELF: A guide to Self Love

Many people have focused too much on loving others, often neglecting to pay attention to themselves. Often we seek the care and love of others, but in reality, it is not what we lack, but the love for our selves. This is why I believe that self-love is essential because you will be facing new challenges in life, allowing yourself to feel your emotions, and having peace of mind are ought to help you aim self-love.

Whenever some new challenge or adventure is introduced to you by someone or by fate, learn to accept it. Older people tend to say “you can always say no” and “saying no is an option”. To look at this another way, we begin to believe in other people’s opinions. Know the difference between what is right and what is wrong. Face new trials and accept it. Stop resisting. You should be aware that you have a high spirit and as a result, you would be able to realize that we grow and learn from experiences.

Sharing your enthusiasm and passion will allow you to feel through your emotions. According to Jennifer Rollin from Psychology Today, “struggling with your emotions often leads to more suffering”. It is an indication that you are not effectively communicating your needs. When you learn how to express your feelings or emotions, notice that the emotions that you experience are sincere and genuine. Make yourself comfortable with your mind and soul.

Your peace of mind will help you ease your expectations. Having expectations will obstruct you from facing the reality of life. Peace of mind makes you worry about nothing and reclaiming your right to love yourself. Practicing gratitude is more likely to yield your peace of mind and having the right mindset and gaining happiness, be grateful for what you have and what you will have. If someone has done you a mistake, work out for forgiveness. Forgiving will soothe your mind and will make you calm.

Self-love and happiness don’t depend on other people but your inner self. Self-love should always come first. Be kind to yourself for the reason that you are the only one that will help yourself in everything that you do. This is all about your spirit. In the end, you cannot find yourself in anyone else.
