My biggest pain point, please solve, post-haste!
This afternoon, I was logging a receipt in my financial tool and — Hey look! The invoice icon reminded me that I had an invoice to create. So I jumped to email to find the client’s email address, and — Hey look! A new email! And — Hey look! It’s notification of a social network message! And — Hey look! My friend sent an article! And — Hey look! The article has links!
Wait. What was I supposed to be doing? Oh yeah. Logging a receipt.
It’s like I go into my toolbox for a wrench and the hammer says “But wouldn’t it be fun and important to drive some nails first?”
All of these tools are useful to me, but I want them in their place and time. They’re really, really good at competing for my attention. I understand why their developers want to play that game. How do I opt out of being their football field?
Somebody please make me something that solves my pain! Here are some free solution ideas, have at it & ping me to be your first beta tester!
- What if I could control my phone through my calendar so I’m only encouraged to look at email during email time, finance app during finance time, Linked In during connection time and articles during learning time?
- What if in order to open my phone I have to say aloud what I want it for, so at least I’m not automatically swept away by whatever I happened to be looking at last time I looked?
- What if I get an electric shock every time I switch apps? Ok, maybe that’s not the very best idea …
So … what was I supposed to be doing again? Oh yeah, logging a receipt. Guess I’d better get back to it!
