God Save the Greyhounds

The short life of a Greyhound is a story of misery and death
Earth’ling: n. One who inhabits of the earth.
First, lets glimpse at a broader picture to help us recognize a smaller one.
“Since we all inhabit the earth, all of us are considered earthlings. There is no sexism, no racism or speciesism in the term earthling…”
However, it is mandkind who tends to dominate the earth, often times treating other fellow earthlings and living beings as mere objects. This is what is meant by speciesism.
By analogy with racism and sexism, the term “speciesism” is a prejudice or attitude of bias in favor of the interests of members of one’s own species and against those of members of other species.

While our exploitation on the animal kind is a very large, unjust and inhumane exercise derived from our intake of food, clothes, science, and companionship, something more minute than the big scale can be pinpointed to humans use of animals for our own entertainment. In this wide category of mistreatment holds the infamous ‘sport’ of Greyhound racing.
“Greyhounds’ natural speed and grace have been exploited for human benefit since the days of the ancient Egyptians”
For anyone unaware, Greyhounds are trained-more often than not through negative enforcement- from birth to race for the joy of humans with bets placed on them. On average 25,000 greyhounds are born into ausralia each year and tens of thousands are disposed.
The true life of a race dog from birth to death.
Never forget that Greyhound Racing is controlled by Gambling and Money. It is big business, with total disregard for…www.animalcrueltyworldwide.com
Along with Bulls (Bull riding follows similar but more severe immoral guidelines) there is an unfortunate stigma around Greyhounds that they are vicious and malicious creatures, but that statement is a common misconception.
These fallacies’ form when Greyhounds are seen sporting nuzzles, or lashing out from aggravation, lack of moral care and unjust living conditions. But that couldn’t be further from the truth as they are very gentle and affectionate dogs and fit excellently into all family situations.
When people attend these races they have little knowledge of the actual living conditions of these dogs. To them, it’s a fun day out to make some money and return to their comfortable homes. The life of a greyhound is one of misery, fear, mistreatment and finally a painful death.

Euthanasia:
Although this is the most ethical and ‘humane’ method of putting a dog down, it is also quite expensive. Owners of copious amounts of unwanted animals use the unprincipled method of gas chambers to kill painful and prevented deaths. If these methods are not enough, Greyhounds are also sold to animal testing labs to endure further abuse.

Just three months ago Bundaberg, Queensland was found responsable for the mass murder of 55 Greyhound dogs disposed after their ‘job was finished’.
These dogs are truly dying for nothing, they only have to be one second slow and they are gone, literally. Unless we do something about it.
The Hawksbury is renowned for its Richmond Greyhound Racing Track and the events that are held every weekend in season. There is then two options possible to persue to either lessen or end the indecenies of the racing industry in our local community.
“Australia remains to be one of the only 8 countries to allow Greyhound Racing.”
Option 1;
With 18,000 dead in Australia in the last year, and thousands more injured, making races illegal should be the next logical step for the Hawkesbury’s council legislative authorities.
In regards to Australia, you can help by signing this petition directed to the Australian Government and by spreading it on every social media you have.
How do you now feel living by a council who condones such immoral animal welfare practices when you understand the pain and suffering they are ‘living’ through day by day?
I hope its somthing like this !!!
As a push start to achieve what we are really after, please help by signing this petition for our local Hawkesbury council to lead the stop to this prejudice. To do so the board needs to initially become aware of our concern and seriousness for this distressing issue.
Option 2;
What if you were told there was a way to personally save these innocent, helpless creatures and allow them the life they deserve? Because there is! Across the globe, and specifically NSW with reference to our local community, there are Non-Profit/Non-Government/Charity organisations that help with the fostering, re-training and then finding new homes for retired Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds that undertake this process have been behaviorally assessed for suitability as a pet and have been in foster for 6 weeks prior before being approved by the Division of the Local Government. In addition they are vet-checked, vaccinated, micro chipped, de-sexed, wormed, and lifetime Registered with the council.

In Sydney alone there are two main adoption and foster organisations, even if you arent ready to take that step yet, it is still exellent to educate yourself further!
Adoption 1; Greyhound Rescue and their social media platforms:
Facebook, Instagram and YouTube
Adoption2; Greyhounds As Pets and their social media platforms:
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, and teaming up with various local pet shops such as Kellyville Pets.
Let the good in you reach out for these humane creatures. Help us defeat the erronous stigma surrounding such beautuful creatures. Lets get saving where we can and make THIS a text for social change!
