Machine Gun Kelly from Cleveland has been such an influential rapper for many years. His career advanced in early 2011 when he signed his big record label with Interscope Records. One of his major debut album is Lace Up which was released in 2012. His newest record is the Binge EP which is by far ONE of my favorites MGK records of all time. Machine Gun Kelly has reach many of people through his music. He talks about his drug problems; which most people can relate to. Let’s face it, America has a huge drug issue. He talks about how his economic status wasn’t the best growing up; he describes himself as poor, with came with struggles. He struggled with being bullied, not being able to have food in his mouth. One of his most recent songs in his new EP “Binge” called “Lately” has a very descriptive and insight on MGK’s upbringings and current drug problem.

In the song “Lately” he starts with saying “Lately I have been crazy thought’s the shit. The way I’m living shit get crazy dark. Tell me lately, why we barley talk. And you know I’m tryna change, but it’s very hard.” I believe as soon as you listen to the first part of his lyrics, you can already feel how he is feeling, you can feel the anger and depression. He moves on to talk about how he is currently feeling and take us back to his life style growing up; let’s take a listen

There we have it, as we can see he has been through a lot and he has demons haunting him, like the rest of us. I am sure many won’t agree, especially all the Eminem’s fans. As we know MGK just had a rap battle with legend rapper Eminem. It was such a huge deal because no one has ever dissed Eminem as good as MGK, but we’ll get right back to that. However regardless of how depressing this song is and weather others can agree or not, I personally believe it’s an amazing song. His EP came out when I was going through some dark times. Demons from my past came back to haunt my family and myself and it felt good to have someone to relate to. It felt good to be able to blast this song in my room or car and just feel like I was not alone. Also because I love MGK, I liked getting the insight and getting to know him as a person because just like the rest of us. His message behind the song I feel is very powerful too; it’s like he’s saying: “Hey I know life is hard, trust me look at mine, but if you try hard you can get out of it, just keep pushing”. It’s pretty motivational and so many of us can relate with such struggles.

Let’s move on to his next song in this EP “Rap Devil”. Rap Devil is MGK’s diss to Eminem. Yes MGK is one of the many rappers that Eminem has an issue with. Let’s be honest though, EVERYONE is on Eminem’s bad list. I used to be an Eminem fan back when Eminem was angry at the world and younger. I stopped listening to Eminem once he changed his rapping style and started making up words. He’s old and has everything he could want, he has even made amends with his ex-wife Kim and his mother but he’s still so angry. It just makes 0 sense but let’s get back to this MGK/Eminem battle. MGK made a comment about Eminem’s daughter Haley about 6 years ago, he said his daughter was hot. MGK was 21 at the time while Haley was 16. Which was pretty rude on MGK’s behalf, but nothing was said or done on Eminem’s behalf, MGK later apologized and said it was rude and meant no harm. Fast forward 6 years later, Em comes out with his album “Kamikaze” with a diss, calling out Machine Gun Kelly. MGK retaliates with “Rap Devil” 2 DAYS LATER!

This song is way better than diss than Em’s first diss! In Rap Devil we learn than Em has been bullying MGK for the past few years. MGK claims that Em was his idol and then learned that Eminem is just a big bully who abuses his power. 2 weeks later Eminem comes out with “Killshot”

Hmmm not a very diss Eminem. Em does not address any of the accusation MGK made against him. All he goes on to talk about is how he is a better rapper. Yes SLIM, you are the rap god. We get it, you’re literally the rap god, but tell us about these accusations. This just goes to show how MGK is such a good rapper. He literally beat the “rap god”.

The rest of his EP is beyond amazing. We get to know more about MGK’s personal life. The problems he struggled with and problems he is struggling with. We hear and see how he is who he is. What made him get into rap and why he raps about the stuff he raps about Listen to Binge on youtube or spotify/apple music. I promise you won’t regret it. It’s an amazing EP and I am sure most of us can relate to some of his struggles. I find comfort when I can relate to music, it makes me feel less alone, which I’m sure we all want to feel that way. This EP definitely deserves a 10
