Most heartbreaking goodbye ever…

I literally have tears in my eyes writing this. These are my last few days at smartapp. The last few weeks have been really emotional one for me. This has been the most difficult decision for me EVER. smartapp had become a part of my life. I loved every single minute of building & scaling it to over 2.5 million users along with a passionate team. It’s been an amazing journey.

I will miss smartapp & my team here :(

This is the best team in the World I ever worked with. Love you all guys!!!

According to a random quote over the internet, ‘The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never explained’. To make sure I did not go through the same pain, I realized all of you & especially my team deserved a detailed note — appreciating everything they have done for me so far. As I sit here and write my goodbye post, a succession of flashbacks has gathered around — showing me the journey we started almost 1.5 years ago, and now it’s time for this exceptional adventure to come to an end for me personally. smartapp will continue to shine under its able team and I will continue to be its hardcore user/critic/fan/supporter from the outside.

I have never shied away from sharing smartapp numbers openly as we were proud of what we had built. It was far from perfect but we were putting in a genuine effort to take it closer to perfection. After wowing the Android prepaid users in India, we experimented with an unusual combination — iOS, Global & Paid. smartapp became the only paid app from India on iOS (at launch & till today). It went on to become the no.1 paid App overall in India and 12 other countries. It continues to rock the charts worldwide and I have never been so happy in my life to see a Made in India App being loved by Chinese, Japanese & Americans equally.

Best part of working at smartapp was the chance to work with some of the most passionate co-workers one could ever ask for — and the best work family ever. Being a young team & not many years of experience in their hands, the team worked tirelessly & learnt fast. We made mistakes & learnt from it faster.

When it comes to our users, I would like to thank all of you for being supportive and helping us in order to create something we had never expected. Our user base is standing on a foundation of your loyalty. I would like to thank each & every user of smartapp who shared their positive & not so positive feedback with us to keep us going.

My decision to leave wasn’t an easy one, and I hope my team supports me in this decision. I want to wish smartapp loads of success & wish they get their next 10mn users in real quick time. I will be back soon doing what I do best — be a good cheerleader. Cheers

“I guess it’s going to have to hurt,
I guess I’m going to have to cry,
And let go of some things
I’ve loved to get to the other side.
I guess it’s going to break me down,
Like falling when you try to fly,
Sad but sometimes
moving on with the rest of your life
Starts with goodbye.”
