After Ikigai, Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles now explore the art of making the best of each moment. Like Ikigai it’s a well-researched book on the Japanese way of living. It was a small refreshing read. To get the most out of this book, one can incorporate the learnings simultaneously. “Ichigo Ichie” literally translates to “Once a meeting” which means that this moment will never be repeated again, even while you read this! The book talks about how we can ensure living in the moment and being grateful for it.

The present is a gift to be opened. When we are angry, sad or fearful, we are either living in the past or the future. Ichigo Ichie happens when we minimize these emotions and start living in the present which translates to happiness.

The authors elaborate on the meaning of happiness and how it’s of different types. Happiness without a cause aligns our soul and helps us appreciate the present moment like there’s no tomorrow. The book also talks about the practice of Zen, where one sits down and observes their thoughts that are fleeting by and practice living in the moment. It shares a story of Steve Jobs being an ardent believer of Zen and how he incorporated its learnings to some of Apple’s designs.

I personally loved the book for its simplicity and details. It further talks about the “Art of Touching, Smelling, Tasting, Looking etc” This is an influential book and I am convinced that “Ichigo Ichie” is the need of the hour. So, BRB while I take more notes from it!

Happy Reading! :)
