I would like to share with you a useful and good-looking UEFI boot manager rEFInd, which can be used to boot various operating systems.

Windows, Linux, Mac OS can be perfectly supported, not based on any operating system platform, no matter how many operating systems you have, rEFInd can let you start successfully. Completely say goodbye to the embarrassment of only selecting the boot item to start correctly through the BIOS boot menu.

Even if your boot is fine, you can use rEFInd to beautify the boot menu interface.

Let’s get to the point

Install

Open the terminal and enter the command sudo apt install refind //Install rEFInd.

Enter y to continue, the first time you install, you will be asked if you want to install rEFInd to the ESP.

Select Yes, click Enter, restart the computer and turn off Safe Boot, then it can be used normally.

How to turn off secure boot

Press F12 all the time to enter the BIOS interface when booting up, select disabled for secure BOOT, and turn off secure boot. This button may be different for different models.

Generally, the buttons Delete, F2, F10, and F12

optimization

Because refind scans all startup files at startup, you will see about 5 startup items when you start up.

To be on the safe side, I didn’t delete Grub, just let refind be loaded first when the bios starts up.

If you select the grub startup item, you will continue to enter the grub menu after the refind menu exits. So, we need to block those useless startup items.

Block redundant startup items

Open the file manager, right-click to open as administrator (system disk →boot →efi →EFI →refind) this folder

Find the refind.conf file and double-click it to open, add dont_scan_dirs ESP:/EFI/boot,EFI/ubuntu,EFI/boot,EFI/deepin_os,EFI/UOS at the end of this file.

Shield the scanned folder startup items, separated by commas. At this time, after clicking Save and restarting, there are only two options left: Windows and deepin.

Beautify themes

This is the startup interface after beautification, I use the theme of rEFInd-glassy.

The following will show you how this is achieved

Create a new folder under the refind folder we just opened, name it themes, and copy the theme folder rEFInd-glassy into it.

It should be noted here that the name of the folder cannot be changed. If your folder is not this name, please change it to this

Then add include themes/rEFInd-glassy/theme.conf at the end of the refind.conf file to save.

So far, everything is configured!

If you want to replace the background image of the boot menu, you only need a 1920*1080 size png image to replace the original background image.
