Coach King and I discuss 0–10 acceleration and how squatting can impact that first step power. We also respond to a question in regards to MMA conditioning and speed training.
This podcast draws from a great deal of world class speed training experience. Coach Bob King trained the US Olympic skeleton team to 2 Gold Medals and 1 Silver medal in the 2002 Olympic Games. He ties this training to his early days with the Dallas Mavericks and the importance of first step acceleration.
My personal experience competing in the 2010 Winter Olympic trials with the US Bobsled team really echoes the importance of power to along with top end speed.
As far as MMA goes; Coach King is a 4th degree brown belt, while I’m in the large majority of entry level white belts.
