Take the Reins from Mind & Reign

What Heart has to say I never know in advance, so here goes — we’ll find out together. It’s a wonderful — & a horrible — time to be boots-on-the-ground on planet earth, isn’t it? Yet that depends entirely on what perspective we choose to take.
Some will find it quite strange that I could call this time wonderful — but that’s my perspective. No, I don’t relish the chaos, don’t like it that people are hurt, suffering, & abused — not saying that. For those open enough to consider an alternate perspective, though, I’ll share.
I’m in charge of no one & nothing but myself. I share & give as I’m guided by Heart to do that, & am a monthly donor to a number of charities — so it’s not that I don’t have a heart. The more we all remember our status as members of the one Family of Humanity, the better it will be for one & all. We can’t “save the world” by our self, but it’s easy enough to do our part. (My donations aren’t large, BTW — just $5 to $10/month. Most can do that ;)
So why do I call it wonderful, you say, when there’s all of this suffering? My journey has taught me that suffering is a perspective, largely a mental one, at that. Yes, I have my share — I’m human, aren’t I?
I’ll spare you the litany, but let’s just say that, without the morphine prescriptions, life would be — well, mighty tough. I doesn’t eliminate the pain, but it moderates it sufficiently so my whole awareness isn’t suffused with it. Sorry if that’s too much information, but I figured I’d get it out of the way for those who think my perspective comes from too much distance from the reality. Not the case.
WEALTH vs HAPPINESS
Yes, I live in the USA, where we’ve got it pretty good compared to any number of countries — materially, financially. But let me ask you — look around at the faces of people — do you see much happiness, there? I find more happiness on the faces, in the countenance of those in poorer countries, living with next to nothing, than I do on the faces of the relatively wealthy, here.

So what is happiness, what is contentment — whence does it arise? Not from material wealth, certainly. It seems the rich are never content with their more-than-enough, but spend their time chasing ever more. Some have tens of billions, some even trillions — yet it’s never enough. That’s not happiness by a long shot — not to me.
The only happiness ever found is in the Now moment — a strange place that few frequent. When we’re stuck in mind, we’re either in the past with it’s joys & regrets, or the future making our To-Do list — chasing whatever it is we feel we’re somehow lacking. Mind is never willing to just sit still & BE for a while — restless bugger, it is.

What if you had all the wealth of Croesus? What would you do with it? Rather, what would it do with you? Do you have any idea of the woes, the cares that tag along? You’ve got to have accountants, lawyers, offices, people to manage things — then comes the matter of trust. With so much envy in the world, when you’re rich it seems that everyone wants something, & many will do whatever it takes to get it. Not so nice.
Won’t go any farther down that road, but you get the drift. Along with great fortunes come so many cares & concerns can easily engulf all of your time tending to them — & to those you’ve hired to tend to them. So if you’re chasing wealth, you might like to consider some of that. Wealth doesn’t bring happiness — that comes from inside.
Many view find hard work as a virtue, which is fine, as long as it’s work they truly enjoy. We’ve got to find what lights our fire, what pleases our inner being, to start. Many are so busy just living, just making it through the day, that they don’t really know. Perhaps they never loved themselves enough to find out — to explore that inner being that so often gets shoved to the side, in the name of convenience, pursuing a vision, or just busyness.
Note the similarity of the words “business” & “busyness.” But for one middle letter — an “I” or a “Y” — they’re the same. Hmm — I, or whY. They’re almost synonymous, anyway. And since the mind hardly knows the presence of Now — of being anchored in just this moment — it’s little wonder there’s not much happiness, there.
HUMAN BEINGS, NOT HUMAN DOINGS
Happiness is a state of being, not one of doing. There is no doing at all that will bring happiness. Doing puts happiness off into the future — have you noticed? If I do this, then that will bring happiness — but later, down the line. “Right now I’ve got to be busy with all of this doing to bring it about.” In my experience, that’s nothing but a dead-end road, leading nowhere fast.

Being is a state of Heart, not one of mind. Heart is ever-present in the NowHere, unlike mind. That Presence is ever with us. But for our choices around the use of time, we could each be happy right now! There’s a thought for you to ponder — I certainly have. Changed my life, it did. I draw comfort in knowing that the very same thing is ever available to simply everyone. It’s all about our use of free will, & what beliefs we have on board.
BELIEFS SET THE TONE
Our chosen beliefs set the tone for our life. There’s no getting around that, for we see the world & all that’s in it through the lenses of those beliefs. They color simply everything we see & experience, as long as we remain locked up within mind. I now view it more as a prison than a pleasant place to abide, so little peace does it have.
That can all change, of course — we always retain our free will, even when locked in a literal prison, or in terrible situations. What we let prevent us from fully exercising it is often our fear of harm or death, so let’s look at those two.
HARM OR DEATH
Death is the big bug-a-boo, at least in Western society. Seems that the Asians, the Easterners are well ahead of us, there. Have you noticed that much of the world’s teachings on inner peace come from that direction, down through time? While they may not seem so peaceful & content these days, much of that may be due to their adoption of Western values, corporations, & the like.
Why are we so fearful around death? Whether ours or another’s, it’s obligatory to wear a long face & be sad. Seems the Irish are ahead of the rest of us in their way of celebrating, holding a wake, tipping a pint or a few, singing songs & remembering the loved one. Perhaps we could take a lesson from them.
It seems so strange that, overall, humanity has forgotten that, though bodies come & go, we ever remain. We’re eternal, friends — did you know? With so very many sharing their NDEs (Near-Death Experiences), you’d think we’d have figured this out, by now. One almost universal sharing is the peace that comes on departing the form. Food for pondering, there.

BEFORE BIRTH — BETWEEN LIVES
Then there are the regression hypnotists who have long been regressing people back to before they were born — back either into other lifetimes, or some specializing in regression to the between-lives state. There is such grand food for exploration, there, which includes sufficient research to establish the factual validity of much that has come through. More food for pondering.
So what are we afraid of around death? The ones we leave behind suffer far more than we do, on crossing over. Too bad, too, because it’s that suffering that keeps them unreceptive to our spirit when we try to comfort them from the other side. Sorrow & pain keep us locked within mind & emotions, not in touch with our inner being, which is where reception of such messages arises. Yet more food for pondering.
EMANATION OF THE DIVINE
The more we begin to identify with that inner being, that deeper One found within Heart, the less fearful of death & injury we are. From Heart, we’re actually one with All That Is. We one day realize that we’re Source-in-form, a ray of the divine, a drop in the Ocean of Life, here to have a human experience, yet also everywhere at once. Yeah, we’ve got to leave mind to the side — ignore it a good bit — to take this ride. All I can say is that it’s worth it, so why not give it a try?
Source is All That Is — I’m not saying that we’re that, that we’re God (which I call Source). I AM saying we’re an aspect, an emanation of That, however, which may offend some beliefs, some minds. Either it’s true or it’s not, & what we believe won’t change that. I’ve found a much happier experience in life by letting go of all beliefs — they just color what we see, bringing out the judgmental tendencies of mind. Have you noticed?
So if we’re chasing happiness, the place to look is ever within. Just imagine — Source lives within you! Pretty special, huh? Would be nice to get acquainted with That, wouldn’t you say? Then, slowly but surely, you come to realize you’re not just a self — you’re also a Self. Or we could say you have a lesser self & a Higher Self, if you like — it’s all the same in the end.
SCIENCE AS A REALM OF BELIEFS
Now, what has Source to fear? You already know (or can know) that you’re eternal, as well. If you don’t yet truly know it, then you can adopt it as a new belief. The closer to Truth our beliefs are, the less they limit our view, color or cloud our vision of life. A lot of folks hold strong beliefs around science, for instance, getting ruffled feathers if you challenge their beliefs, which they consider as absolute facts.
That’s a bit myopic, however, not taking into account the great history of scientific discovery. Today’s scientific fact is always proved wrong or inaccurate by tomorrow’s scientific discovery — giving us new “facts.” They aren’t facts, friends — they’re theories, “proven” or not — just our latest understanding on this trek we call life.
That’s all humanity ever has, our latest understandings. If we study history, we soon realize those understandings will always & ever be trumped by later understandings, supported by other, more recent “facts.” And what are those, but tomorrow’s latest theories? Do you see? It’s so obvious to me, & wish more people saw this, too. It lightens the load, releasing one group of staunch beliefs.
Sure, I love science — maybe not the way it’s currently practiced — so materialistically, with no regard for spirit/soul, for the consciousness of the beings on which it experiments. They get started, & they just can’t stop. Things like the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) or CERN drive me a bit crazy, as those people seem to have lost something somewhere along the way. Their casual disregard for both humanity & the planet is amazing — but this is the behavior of people so stuck in mind that I wonder if they even realize they’re souls, not just bodies, just minds.
MIND IN THE BACK SEAT
Back to happiness — I didn’t find mine until I worked it out with mind that Heart would take over the driver’s position, giving mind a fine ride from the back seat. Took several years, but mind is finally content — most of the time — with the new arrangement. The rest of the time I largely ignore it. Sure, I highly respect it, & listen attentively when I call upon it — otherwise, I find it just gets in the way, blocking that happiness that’s generally present.
No way of knowing if you’ll find this useful, but it was great fun, seeing it come out on the page. Do what you enjoy, friends. As long as you harm none, you’re only answerable to yourself — well, to yourSelf, more importantly. It’s time we took the reins back from mind so we can reign in our own Kingdom of Heart, the home of a happiness that’s surely one with the divine.
