Beautifully written on so many levels!
I have been thinking about the difficulty Americans have in discussing difficult issues, issues that involve race, class, politics. Race being the thorniest of topics because it is so personal, but at the same time, it isn’t at all. The whole RACE concept is fictitious — there is no one black race or white race — but we are manipulated by our society to categorize each other this way. You speak about the“benefits” of white people — and no one can deny the financial and political benefits … but as a white woman that has seen through the lies of a system that is disgustingly corrupt and soulless ala the Great White Way … I don’t want a part of that shit — seriously. I don’t want to be part of a system, that thinks it is okay for its citizens, corporation and governments to poison, pillage, murder, rape, bomb, etc any person, thing, land, country — just as long as that person, thing, land, country is a government or societally approved/identified enemy associated with race, class, religion — fill in the effing blank.
The reason, White people don’t want to look at Racism, is because that is just the TIP of the iceberg of a tragically epic tale of White dominance on this planet. But it is the core human element that tugs at all our hearts. Most of us are denial, as White people, like children of a child molester we have gone into denial … we do NOT want to claim that evil as our own flesh and blood. Yet we need to accept the reality that until we open our eyes, we cannot begin to start clearing the fetid landscape of the results and actions our willful ignorance and of the intentional cruelty of our forefathers and mothers.
Do not think you are ALONE in the pain of this situation. Because of the Great White way— not only are we fighting amongst ourselves and hating people that are NOT our enemies — and being silently screwed by those that are — but time is ticking on whether there will be a healthy planet for our children and their children to enjoy … all because of the Great White Way. There comes a time, when the poison passed around in a circle to others comes back to us. We can drink the poison, and continue to drug ourselves into foggy denial as the world continues to unravel around us …. or we can change.
