The main problem of the article, apart from the click-baity title, is the lack of perspective. Just because you were Googling what UX is in 2011 doesn’t mean it’s wasn’t a thing before that.

UX is an all-encapsulating term and it’s been around for a lot longer. The people at Xerox PARC were amazing UX designers, inventing a whole set of paradigms we call GUI nowadays. And what about early Apple, Microsoft, all the work put into gaming paradigms, the web itself? This is all UX.

Looking ahead, the field is actually growing exponentially with VR, AR, voice, wearables and IoT. Everything has to be reinvented for new mediums.

TLDR: Golden age ≠ your design career.
