Computer science is the art of reinventing history every 15–20 years.
The old Smalltalk/Lisp beards were doing this long ago. C# had functional features, and things like async/await, and soon Observables, that will be in EcmaScript.
Like they say, ‘shared mutable state’ and ‘cache invalidation’ are the only real hard problems in CS :) (ok maybe add CAP)
