Just read all your articles on being trans, totally agree with your viewpoints, they very much align with arguments I’ve been making about this, so I’m glad to see a transsexual that agrees.

I’m quite conservative, and I find it frustrating sometimes trying to explain to right-leaning people that, despite all the phoney non-binary snowflake types that get their attention with claims of 57 genders and ridiculous pronoun demands, transsexualism is a real thing. They tend to frame it as a mental illness, and while that may be technically correct, it’s just not a helpful way to look at it when it’s caused by structural differences in the brain. As you say, there is no way to change the structure of the brain, and it’s ethically objectionable to tinker with the “self” anyway, so the body must be changed.

I really hope that this brain research progresses to a point where a trans brain can be reliably identified before puberty. With the present state of the science, I agree with Blaire White’s view that irreversible changes should not be made to the bodies of children, but I think that if a child’s self-identification could be confirmed with a high-probability brain scan, that would provide the degree of certainty required to justify early intervention without enabling trendy parents to trans their kids. There is no denying the benefits of hormone treatment before secondary sex characteristics come in - especially for MtF - providing the diagnosis is correct, but the implications of acting on a misdiagnosis are horrendous.

I’d still advocate waiting until 18 for bottom surgery, because that isn’t so age-critical, and I think that given the limitations of the surgery, there is a legitimate question of whether to have it at all.
