After that election, the 246-member Swiss Parliament will elect a seven-member Federal Council in November to form the so-called Swiss government. The seven members of the council, each of whom is a minister of a government department, will serve as head and vice-head of state for a one-year non-renewable term. 2020 will see Simonetta Sommaruga, Minister of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, and Guy Parmelin, Minister of Economics, Education, and Research.
