Two points:

  1. I think AWS is winning the war for mindshare because they get that winning is not about the “best stuff” or even “best value”, but about the entire sale. Recall that closing scene from “Pirates of Silicon Valley”, when Jobs says, “we have better stuff” and Gates says, “you don’t get it? It just doesn’t matter?”
  2. I still find the App Engine pricing, well, odd. It feels way too much like IaaS pricing (which is what it is). While I have my issues with Lambda, true function-as-a-service is really what liberates from thinking about infrastructure. I have a function, it runs, I get charged per 100ms.
