It’s because they care what others think. If they think that because it’s part of their values, then that’s a different story, although I’d love to hear their perspective behind that.

Height is a strange one though. Height typically has a high-status connotation behind it. To women, it also displays a primitive, unconscious belief of comfort.

Don’t want to go down this rabbit hole but everyone has a level of physical requirements. Does that make us shallow? Maybe. You can’t win this way.

I’m going to revert back to my first point. They care what others think. How people will see them in public. “He’s short for her. That looks funny.”
