That puts a big onus on women. We are so frequently confronted with crap like this, in all aspects of our lives, that it gets exhausting to call it out all the time. We often have to dress up our language to preserve the feelings of the individual person belittling us, and then deal with the fallout after. It would be great if more men would shoulder some of this burden, both by educating themselves and calling out other men.

Requiring folks to not only handle their discrimination with aplomb, but educate those perpetuating it and hold their hands afterwards to make them feel better about it is just another tax on women’s time and energy. Sometimes it’s worth it to us, but often we have too much on our plate to take that on, too.
