Your Network with your Net Worth. Let that sink in.

I live in New York City. In other words, there are billions of dollars walking around me every single day and the opportunities to grow my network are endless. But can you say the same for smaller cities? For your state? For your town? Maybe?

Perhaps it’s time for us to get more acquainted.

In Connecticut, Small Business Night Out (SBNO) is here to shine the light on our community entrepreneurs. The group blessed us with its 6th Annual Black Business Gala in Hartford, CT on February 22, 2019. The Small Business Night Out hosts a series of events for entrepreneurs and change agents in the state of Connecticut.

From NYC to LA, major metropolises have been recognized for the abundance of Black Owned Businesses that are accessible. Rarely do we find ourselves in smaller cities and states where we are aware of the opportunities and businesses around.

Here are some honorees from the event that you should get to know:

  • Sabrina & Anthony Barrett — Founder & President of Girls For Technology. They are empowering the next generation of girls to explore opportunities to become tomorrow’s leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
  • Sasha Allen — Owner of Northend Agent’s. Connecticut’s largest and longest-published African American newspaper whose mission is to promote positive images of Hartford (particularly the city’s north end neighborhoods).
  • Tia Long & Ashley Lania — Owners of Power of CT. The POC’s purpose is to harness the power of Connecticut’s creative millennial entrepreneurs and professionals of color.

These individuals are just a mere few of the game changers in Connecticut. We need more of this. We need to be able to support one another in smaller states and cities. And it needs to go beyond recognizing and celebrating us only during Black History Month because we are Black everyday.

I share this as motivation for professionals and entrepreneurs in all cities and towns to highlight black-owned businesses that are making a difference. And for us to bring them to light and support them through their journey. We are nothing without the love and support from our community.
