When you lose a tooth, especially the one which isn’t visible to others in normal circumstances, you tend to think about not replacing this missing tooth. It is surely going to feel a bit awkward for a few days but then you will get used to it. But it is not as simple as it may look. A missing tooth can lead to serious physical and mental disturbance which you wouldn’t want to have. Good news is that replacement of a missing tooth is not as difficult as you may think.

Physical consequences of not replacing missing teeth

There can be a number of issues which can arise inside and outside of your mouth due to missing tooth/teeth. After losing a tooth, the other teeth in your mouth will slide towards the area of missing tooth in order to fill the gap. The gap filling can be referred to as malocclusion. When it happens, it can result in misalignment of the teeth in that particular jaw. With this problem of misalignment, you can suffer from cross-bite, overbite, or under-bite. These problems can lead to difficulty in chewing and other oral health conditions such as tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease.

The missing tooth immediately results in reduced power in the bite. It means that your ability to chew your foods will be affected pretty badly. This is what you need to avoid at all costs.

Another serious disadvantage of losing a tooth and not getting replacement for long time is that the jawbone will start deteriorating. Jawbone needs roots of teeth in order to remain active. When it doesn’t happen, the jawbone starts deteriorating, leading to the weakening process of other teeth as well.

Mental consequences

Losing a tooth doesn’t only give you physical troubles but it can also have some serious mental consequences. Missing tooth is usually symbolized as something negative in the society we live in. you can perhaps look at the movies’ characters who are supposed to be poor and unintelligent. Those characters usually have one missing tooth.

Although it’s the pop culture we are talking about, you need to keep in mind that pop culture and real life take inspirations from each other. Hence, the perceptions may be drawn based on these inspirations. Therefore, it is a good idea to get tooth replacement if you can do it.

Restoration

Although there are many options for tooth replacement you can go for, the one which is thought to be ideal is the dental implant. Dental implant consists of a titanium post which acts as a root. On the top of this root, a crown is adjusted. This crown is strong enough to endure the pressure which is generated as a result of chewing foods.
