John Ennis, a statement you wrote leads me to think you are not seeing the big picture of Bernie Sanders and who he is. You wrote “…is why I believe that electing Hillary to stop Trump is not an effective long term solution for our country”. Take a moment if you will to chew on the following reasoning if you will.
Senator Bernie Sanders’ action broke more hearts in America on Tuesday night (July 26) in two-minutes then any other person in recent history, without dying first.
Think of the wisdom he has shown during his time in Congress for a moment. In particular his impeccable reputation for researching before each vote, and the proven foresight shown to vote correctly when most colleagues voted for the disaster he warned against. Honestly, John, this is proven on CSPAN video of him speaking to Congress, and his Congressional voting record!
Beyond this is Senator Sanders’ history of activism, including arrest as he advocated for the oppressed. He has never sold out or backed down and this is proof of his impeccable character and integrity, which is another reason I will continue to support, Bernie, by doing what many think is distasteful in the General election and vote for the very person Bernie has said is the person to not only carry his platform, but will keep a madman out of the White House.
You see, many understand the game of poker, and the strategy of war being individual battles. If you race in all gung ho without a plan, that war will take down many innocent people. The very ones the General is fighting for. The Bernie or Bust movement strategy attempted to push Super Delegates into a vote for the better candidate in line with 170 expert economists letter of endorsement; but that did not materialize.
I could tell by his somberness and the words he chose to speak that Bernie Sanders saw signs by June the Super Delegate votes might not be there, and was evidenced by his meeting in Florida with the DNC before the Convention. I watched his face, as he watched the numbers separate and end with a 900 vote win in Hillary‘s favor, yet this amazing man chose to be the first to officially motion that Hillary be officially nominee. He was not forced to do so; he chose to do so for the following common sense, and logical reasons because Bernie Sanders is a selfless activist.
First, should anything happen to Hillary during the general campaign that would prevent her from pursuing this run, he would automatically be the default candidate for the Democrats. But the other reason is more important to the Revolution.
Second, during the talks the DNC agreed to fight for these four items as not only a promise, but now written into policy for Democrats:
1. $15.00/hour minimum wage
2. Additions to healthcare improvements
3. Free state college for families making $125,000.00 per year, or less.
4. The most important one for the Political Revolution: overturning Citizens United, the very group that has for decades used their billionaire money to “rig” elections, and buy votes in their favor on Capital Hill.
Bernie Sanders battle strategy to strike while the iron is hot and people are angry is spot on. He knows if Trump gets into office this will give Citizens United four years leeway to gather state information, and then plan their opposing strategy–to black out media and kill any progressive candidate’s run at the state level as they did his run. He knows the time is now. The risk of losing ground is too real.
As many supporters who have worked tirelessly during his campaign have commented (whether famous or infamous) they may not care for Hillary personally but they will hold their nose and vote for her, because they trust Bernie Sanders telling history of sound judgment.
Another reason I see Hillary as safer than Trump should their be a third split from Stein, Johnson, Bernie write-ins and a scattering of others is the fact that the world will be watching her under a constant scrutinizing microscope from this day forward. She‘s far more predictable then Trump ever could be.
Can you imagine handing the highest office on earth to a seventy-year-old teenager who refuses to grow up? Well, when one thinks of Korea’s Kim Jong-Un perhaps you there is a glimmer of realization.
Each of us must ask ourselves these two questions if we were ever a Bernie Sanders supporter during the Primary:
If the multi-billionaires of Citizens United blacked out Bernie Sanders (causing this rock star of a major party to lose) how much easier will it be for them to poison the lesser-known candidates within a state who are less experience to put a halt to the Revolution altogether?
Secondly, if Bernie Sanders is mature enough to accept one defeat, work with and vote for Hillary, to fight for the enactment of his selfless agenda, who am I to think I am wiser than he?
