Special Scholastic Program
Our custom made educational program allows students to decide which subjects they will prioritize (based on their career interests), and the order in which they will complete each required assignment. It also allows them to add special courses from our extensive curriculum that will further prepare them for their chosen careers. For example, if a student is interested in becoming a doctor, he or she might add more courses associated to medicine like extra anatomy, chemistry or biology courses, etc.
Independent Studying
At the Delphian School students learn how to study any subject on their own, with the supervision and support of a teacher, but independently from the rest of their classmates. This means that each student advances at his or her own rhythm and, although they might be in the same classroom, he or she might be studying a different subject than the person next to him or her at any given time. This eliminates the stress students experience when they have a time limit to understand a subject before moving on to the next one without having fully grasped it. By getting rid of the “time factor”, students can concentrate on really understanding and fully mastering a subject before moving on to the next task.
Enormous Advantages of Independent Studying
Independent Studying allows students to learn subjects much better than in typical educational environments where all of the students are forced to advance at the same speed and study the same subject as the rest of the class without having the opportunity to pause and clarify things they don’t fully understand, strengthen weak areas, nor deviate from the established program in order to explore other subjects they might be interested in.
Most people think that a study method like the one described above is impossible to carry out. But it is not impossible; the Delphian School has been using this method and program for more than 4 decades with outstanding outcomes. In fact, Delphian is the first school to have successfully implemented this methodology which is now being adopted all over the country and abroad and which is widely known as “proficiency based education”.
On-Campus Extracurricular Activities
Since the Delphian School is primarily a boarding school, most of the extracurricular activities that take place are on-campus. We offer a large quantity of exciting, educational and fun activities for our students such as: Music, Art, Ceramics, Science, Photography, Filmmaking, Theater, Chess, Robotics, and many more.
Sports and Team Activities
All of our athletic activities and team activities are organized by the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) where every year our teams (Boys and Girls) compete in: Basketball, Baseball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Track & Field, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Choir and Solo Music.
