Iron Fish is a new coin that differs from other brethren in its privacy using zk-SNARK. This cryptographic method is used to prove its work without revealing personal data, i.e. it protects balances and user identification. For example, BTC does not have such a function, and because of this, you can track the balance of any wallet of their transaction. The coin also uses the Sapling protocol from the Zcash team to build and validate secure transactions in the context of the blockchain.

Financing Iron Fish

Iron Fish raised $27.7 million in a Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) ahead of its testnet launch on December 1st.

The other investors in the round were Sequoia, Electric Capital, MetaStable, Arrington XRP, Terra co-founder Do Kwon, Thesis CEO Matt Luongo, and Anchorage co-founder Nathan McCauley. San Francisco-based Iron Fish launched its first testnet in April and says it has since attracted nearly 2,000 self-identified miners to its community. Testnet is an alternative blockchain used for experimentation and testing while the mainnet is used for real transactions.
The company is currently running an incentivized testnet that will reward participants with leader points that will lead to the future Iron Fish main coin. The Iron Fish roadmap starts with proof-of-work blockchain and native cryptocurrency, and then expanded to more assets, stablecoins and cross-chain bridges, including L2 support.

In future iterations, you will be able to run Iron Fish right in your browser: no installations, no problems with router settings, no installation of hidden applications. For now, Iron Fish is a command line tool that is intuitive and easy to use.
