Brandon finishing homework after a long day.

Picture him, getting off the plane after flying thousands of feet in the blue air on a white plane as his black body was dreaming. He is on an emotional roller coaster after listening to musical Psalmist, Todd Galberth’ song, “Lord You Are Good” reminiscing about all of the wonderful things God has done for him. After traveling from New York, his face suddenly crumbles as he realize this is the first semester of senior year at Morehouse College.

His name is Brandon Corlew, studying to receive his undergraduate degree in drama. Dancing is what he love to do because it helps him deal with stress and establish an in depth analysis of his identity. Now that he’s done drifting away in the deep of his dream summer, he began to reflect on his past years at Morehouse and form a preview of what his senior year may look like.

“I don’t expect anything to different other than ensuring I graduate on time and fill out graduate school applications, Corlew said. Other than that, same thing just a different day.”

College is hectic by itself when calculating the mandatory class hours, papers, projects, and social life. Therefore, when senior year arrives it is double trouble. Usually, seniors have more to worry about more outside assignments as application deadlines for graduate school, interviews, and job searches become more important.

“I usually work best under pressure, Corlew said. I have been doing it all my life.”

Corlew is very active on campus as a performer. Often times when a special show comes around, Brandon is usually the one who is urged to showcase his skills. He has performed at some of the most popular events- Art After Dark, Miss Maroon and White Pagent, and Crown Forum just to name a few.

Late nights and early mornings are his typical life. His classes are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and after he goes to the dance studio, and straight to work afterwards. He is back at his room by 9 p.m. and usually gets his work finished by 12 a.m. the next day.

A new semester is always filled with expectation from a student to prioritize and focus. Most have to sit in quiet areas to focus, but he thrives where there is some type of noise being heard.

“I am a very weird guy, Corlew said. I can’t study when its too quiet. I need some ump.”

Well, he will definitely have enough ump to last him throughout the semster. and he will handle it. His freshman goal of graduating with honors is closer than he can conceptualize and he is ready to accomplish that and more.

“My journey with my GPA has been tough, Corlew said. It has all been worth the grind though.”

Corlew’s burning desire is to find meaning in his normal semster life is nothing new. What others believe is a load is normal for him. He is the epitome of the great Morehouse Man its institution seek after.

“I believe this semester will be better than before, Corlew said. Let’s get this show on the road.”
