I agree there are many problems with Social Security, but this article was not meant to tackle problems with our entitlement programs or tax law overall. I do support, however, tax reform which takes into account a new classification of worker, as I mention further down in the article the concept of a “dependent contractor” which exists in Canada. This could be only one approach to the problem.
That being said, it is my understanding that if one is self-employed, one does indeed pay into Social Security already (as I have been self employed many times, and felt the burden of the higher self-employment tax).
Singling out one technology company here is not going to solve the issue of a broken entitlement system.
