It is perhaps worth noting that in many, many ways “The Flash” TV series is running the “Flashpoint” story arc that was so terrible in comics. It’s surprising how much more effective it is on television. And in the context of a character with no actual baggage or backstory on screen except what’s revealed.

And, once we got to the far end of Season 1, we saw that the arc was at the very least strongly influenced by Flashpoint. However, where Barry Allen in the comics had acted terribly and brought pain upon the timeline and trillions of sentient beings throughout the multiverse he destroyed… Barry Allen on the television show The Flash did the right thing, even though it hurt himself badly, and chose to let go of what he wanted in the name of what the world needed.

And even then the act caused a lot of trouble, but Barry was himself, in the end, the hero that we believed he would be. It really did end up as the anti-Flashpoint.

Season 2’s been pretty great, too.
