I responded on Reddit also— the proof was that case 2 is supposed to strengthen and confirm case 1 by providing a slightly alternative route to the same conclusion. By showing that evolution is consistent with our framework of belief model, we get a better idea why our basic beliefs exist as often correct mechanisms for survival, which implies millions of years of creating an isomorphism between map and territory, and why those basic beliefs are so hard to change (you are challenging basic survival instinct, in a way).
