Let me reword the question — I appreciate you pointing out what I didn’t make clear.

I see now and throughout history thought leaders who are major influencers of culture. Of course they don’t define an entire culture, but they can be catalysts of change or conserve the norms.

How do you convince thought leaders that they are perpetuating maladaptive/non-adaptive* practices, when most (psychologically speaking) would not accept rigorous evidence that counters them? Or even more simply, how is someone convinced that their culture is sick?

*Haven’t seen the word in this context before, I’m assuming it means a practice that doesn’t influence the reproductive rate of the population. But this (to my likely incorrect guess) seems like it still negatively affect people in the population, like curtailing rights. Please correct me if I’m in error.
