“I”, I think, can be satisfactorily explained as a complex feeling. That it is just beyond our current understanding doesn’t imply god. I think our brains are very very complex, and they get more complex as we get older, creating new feelings for ourselves as we mature. The feeling of “I” is emergent from the process of maturing, and I think memory is a necessary but insufficient condition for this feeling to emerge. In part, we feel ourselves through our memories and our sensation of linear time, and are able to set boundaries for the ”I” by contrasting it with the outside world.
