Trigger warnings on my campus were to consist of a statement on a syllabus that described adult topics covered in that course. It is no different than the ratings on tv shows, movies, and video games, or the warning you (should) get when entering a porn site. The warnings do not excuse non participation, nor do they limit discussions or material presented in class. How is providing adults with more information about a class infantilizing, or creating a thin skin? How is warning a veteran that their PTSD may go off in this lecture anything but empathetic?
