You still make no argument why the idea of women as property should be disregarded, you only argued it can be. Our country was founded on rights and property ownership for men only, with women subordinate, coming from Judeo-Christian cultures that have always repressed the role of women (many sects still do, like orthodoxy Judaism). With a history of men legislating control over women’s lives, the presumption that modern American men in power— some of whom HAVE legislated women’s lives — still view women as property seems a safe assumption.
