I have spent just over a week with Apple’s new flagship iPhone, the iPhone X. In one word, magic.

The edge to edge OLED display is stunning. Apple was not the first to bring out this technology to its smartphones, but like anything Apple does, it perfects it before releasing it in a product.

The TrueDepth camera is flawless. This new technology using a new feature called FaceID, replaces the home button’s TouchID function to unlock the phone. Since the home button is no longer needed, the face of the iPhone is all display.

Inductive charging, or as many people like to call it wireless charging, is a new feature to the iPhone. This technology requires a glass back to work.

The camera is likely my favorite upgrade from previous models. Dual 12 megapixels with optical image stabilization. One wide angle view the other telephoto. Adding the portrait mode feature to the camera app and you have a pretty impressive camera attached to your mobile phone. Is the camera the best on the market, probably. It’s specs may not reveal that, but Apple does a great balancing act when it comes to pixels, sensor size and sensor quality. Not all pixels are the same. More pixels is not always better. Apple has a great camera.

All of these new features and technology come at a price. The iPhone X has a sticker price starting $999 USD or here in Canada $1,319 CAD. For the 64GB model.

We can all agree, this new technology comes at a price. But let’s remind you the back of the iPhone is a glass back, and the front, sports a new display, that is edge to edge. And since it’s all glass, the iPhone has a bit more weight to it. This maybe Apple most durable glass ever, but it’s still glass, and the phone is heavier. If dropped, It’s gonna break without protection.

So, if you want, or already have the iPhone X, make sure you get a case for it. Or better yet, get a case and get AppleCare+ to help protect your investment. You’ll regrets not doing so the first time you drop it.
