For a few weeks, I considered the idea that, though many Trump supporters voted for him BECAUSE of his ways and not in spite of them, some Trump supporters might have thought that they were voting for the lesser of evils. In the end, their reasons (and the logic of this piece) were irrelevant. My anguish was based on the things he did/said that they were willing to overlook, which were absolutely-horrifying-can’t-make-sense-of-it-viscerally-sickened-whenever-I-try-to-imagine-myself-in-a-mindset-where-this-is-okay deal-breakers for me. No cool logic can help make pussy-grabbing/mocking the disabled/mocking a POW/mocking the parents of a dead soldier into wave-away-with-a-brush-of-the-hand problems for me. Someone will surely respond by listing things they don’t like about Hillary Clinton — fine, I’m used to it (and bored with it — save your energy). The fact that Trump supporters and I disagree so profoundly on what constitutes a deal-breaker tells me that we live in the same country but very different universes.
