Labmate Cellulose Acetate Film Electrophoresis Cell is a highly efficient horizontal electrophoresis system that includes a 1000 ml buffer. The gel size can be either 70 or 90 × 250 mm. It also has adjustable sticks to accommodate different sizes of paper or cellulose acetate membrane for various experiments.

  1. Preparation: The cellulose acetate film is soaked in a buffer solution to ensure proper conductivity and placed on a supporting structure within the electrophoresis cell.
  2. Sample Application: Small volumes of the sample are applied to designated spots on the membrane.
  3. Electrophoresis: The film is subjected to an electric field by connecting it to electrodes within the electrophoresis cell. As the current flows, charged molecules in the sample migrate across the film. The rate and direction of migration depend on the molecules’ charge-to-mass ratio and the pH of the buffer.
  4. Separation: Over time, different components of the sample separate into distinct bands on the film.
  5. Staining and Analysis: After electrophoresis, the film is treated with appropriate staining agents to visualize the separated components. The bands can then be analyzed qualitatively or quantitatively.

Cellulose acetate film electrophoresis is favored for its simplicity, low cost, and effective resolution for certain types of samples, such as hemoglobin variants or serum proteins to know more visit website www.labmate.com
