Myles, I believe this is the most historically true piece about Stonewall I’ve read. Comparing the past Village to the present one adds depth and context to the telling. How correct you are — although the current West Village can be a physically lovely and fun, but sanitized, place to visit, it has lost all the gritty reality and stark honesty of the Stonewall-era Village. How often we become what we disdained.
