Closing Time
Kristen Corey

You stirred college memories from long ago. Excellent piece. I imagine I am about 40 years older than you, but we are having similar experiences this spring. My daughter and grandchildren lived with my husband and me for 6 1/2 years, defining nearly every moment of every day as I co-parented with my daughter. Three weeks ago they moved out. I lost my job as a daily parent/grandparent and became the once a week grandmother. I lost a big part of my identity. Now I am investigating who I am without them. We are downsizing and buying a smaller home soon. Everything is changing — mostly good and exciting, but also sad and a little disconcerting. I hope we both have grand adventures and write about them!
