The Four New Inventions of China

The lives of Chinese citizens are becoming more connected with technological innovations. Just as the country prides itself in its four great inventions of ancient China — papermaking, printing, gunpowder, and the compass — netizens have coined the new term of the “The Four New Inventions of China.” These four new great inventions are changing the way people live.

In the summer of 2019, one of my American friends visited China. After traveling to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chengdu, he reflected that everything he experienced was a fresh new encounter. A phrase that stuck with me is that he revealed that “China is the future of America.” In terms of transportation infrastructure, sky-scrapers, and the diversity of available goods, one can consider China as a highly advanced country while the United States remains in development.
