Dennis Faust: 2013

Beginner’s Luck Weather

in the Pacific Northwest

I came to the area, Bainbridge Island specifically, in March. We’d picked out a house and someone had to be the advance force. I was it. The week I got here it sleeted, snowed, hailed, rained of course and was cloudy and overcast. Ok, I’d been warned. For the next two months it was 50 degrees, overcast and sprinkly. Again, I’d been warned. I bought some Gore-Tex and wore sweaters underneath. I told myself that I prefer chilly to too hot, and I do. Then my family came in mid-June and there has been nothing but fabulous weather. It has only rained one day since they got here. I’m told by a house painter who tracks such things that July 2013 was the driest July for 35 years. What’s one to think? Beginner’s Luck?,Fate? Who cares. Our joke is “it’s always beautiful here in the Pacific NW!” Check back in January.
