ANDELA BOOT CAMP: DAY 4

Like sand through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives at Andela. Each day brings with it new ideas, new concepts and new skills and day four was no different. Today we covered three main topics; Classes, Functions, Objects and Datatypes. The morning warm up session was great as usual. We split ourselves in various groups and played different games that helped improve our concentration, listening, problem solving and prioritizing skills.

We started off the day’s classes by looking at various JavaScript datatypes. In computer programming, a data type or simply type is a classification identifying one of various types of data that determines the possible values for that type, the operations that can be done on values of that type, the meaning of the data, and the way values of that type can be stored. Datatypes in JavaScript are mainly categorized into; strings, numbers, Boolean and objects among others. A Function on the other hand is a type of procedure or routine which executes a block of code and returns a value. In JavaScript, an object is a standalone entity, with properties and type written as name: value pairs.

In the afternoon we did practically all of what we had done theoretically in the morning and also got to solve some AndeLabs problems. All in all, day four was another great day. Can’t wait for day five.
