The Tao Te Ching (12)

Verse 33–34–35

Verse 33

Wisdom is in knowing others

Enlightenment is in knowing yourself

Force is required to overcome others

Strength is required to overcome yourself

Those who are content with their wealth are rich in the knowing of the Tao

Those who live their purpose live long

Those who live in the Tao live forever

Verse 34

The great Tao is everywhere, both to the left and to the right

The Tao gives all to the ten thousand things denying none

In fulfilling its purpose the Tao makes no claim or makes any assumption of being the lord of the ten thousand things,

Instead the Tao remains silent in its works

The ten thousand things always return to the Tao knowing that the Tao isn’t their lord

By not showing greatness is truly great

The Sage is like the Tao, by not making himself great his greatness is attained

Verse 35

The Sage that is one with the Tao is at peace and will have the world come to him

Those who are in the presence of the Sage will experience the peace, calmness and happiness of the Tao

Music and merriment are only passing pleasures yet people partake of such festive activities but how empty and hollowed compared to the Tao

When you look for it, you cannot see it, when you try to hear it, it cannot be heard but when you use it, it is beyond being exhausted

Every writer makes mistakes, mine is picking up the pen and writing. I have spent my writing career working in non-fiction. I’ve started my journey into fiction summer of 2022 with my first novel, Obsession, which will be out summer 2023. Learning fiction is a completely different trade craft which I hope I can master before I turn into ash.

One aspect of fiction is learning the art of the short story. I read as much if not more than I write and have enjoyed reading here on Medium. Please comment or reach out with your thoughts. I enjoy engaging. Thank you for taking the time to read my work! Without you, there is no me.
