The challenge in the bucket

It is the fourth day of the Andela two-week boot camp which is a taste of what lays ahead for the top 1% who are lucky enough to have a chance to be accepted into the fellowship program. It has been a tough journey all along from the application stage to this moment.

This week I’m expected to prove that I have learned something, that I have improved. To do this, the challenge is to build a Flask application. Well, no databases are involved at this stage, but that doesn’t make the work easier. Using data structures to store the data for the app has proven to be another challenge making the process a learning experience even for those who have been coding for some time now. For the faint hearted, this is a call for surrender.

The lesson I’ve learned so far is that adapting to difficult situations is one of the things that can see you through solving a challenge however big it is. It has been a week full of learning, applying and actually getting out of one’s comfort zone. Music in the background, a cup of hot coffee and the sound of my computer fan has been the norm of the day for the past few weeks. Today I started integrating my functionality into the templates that I created about a week ago. It has been a challenge having to fix bugs but I can say the app is coming through pretty good although at a slow pace.

The biggest challenge today I can say was finding a way to assign an id to the buckets that a user can add to the app. Well after hours of research I got my user account management system working. With the little time remaining on the project, I have to have a working app that can be deployed on Heroku. Well, that’s another challenge as I have to learn how to deploy the app and have it running smoothly. It has been a long and challenging journey but I’m glad that everything is coming together now however little it is. I better get back to my app. See you when the app is done.
