The effort that would be needed to counter man-made climate change would be very expensive. It won’t happen without political action. Stephens takes cynical advantage of the differing ways we talk about certainty when we’re talking science and talking politics. Correcting his usage from a scientific viewpoint doesn’t get us anywhere when he makes the “common sense” argument that “Why should we believe scientists? They’re not sure themselves, and they keep changing their stories!”
