Braces are fixed appliances that are used over a period of approximately 1–2 years for the correction of crooked teeth (malabsorption). After the correction, removable retainers are given for a period of about 6 months in order to retain the teeth and stabilize them in the corrected position.

This type of treatment will require the patient to visit the dentist once a month in order to change the existing wires and elastics.

Metal braces: These are metallic braces and hence are cheaper than ceramic ones.

Ceramic Braces: (tooth-colored braces) As they are transparent, they are aesthetic.

Lingual braces are an advanced technique where the braces are placed on the inner aspect of the teeth and, hence, are invisible.
