Scientists Confirm: For Cyclists, Train Tracks Are the Worst

I mean, cyclists should be aware of their environment and the risks involved. I will get off and walk over hazards many times. I can appreciate that if there’s a lot of them, this may not be as practical.

Also important for manging risk is minimizing the severity of potential accidents, if you navigate through hazards at a low speed it can reduce the chance of more harmful spills. But train tracks can be particularly nasty, because a wheel could get completely stuck, whereas other hazards may just involve slipping or bumps.

Stay safe out there cyclists! And any helps from planners or designers is greatly appreciated, especially for more trepid or novice riders it can make a big difference, and let them appreciate the joys of bike transit where they might not venture otherwise.

Good design also makes bikes less annoying for cars. Bike present a smaller direct physical risk, but they can still create risks because they interact with traffic differently.

Anyway, I mostly longboard, don’t forget that all this infrastructure helps us as well! I just have a hard time dealing with flat tires, which put my bike out of commission, whereas my board is always ready to go. It has been my primary mode of transit for several years now.
