Simplify Your Way to Abundance

I had the strangest dream this past Monday night. I dreamt I was installing something in our home, which wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. What was out of the ordinary was the random clutter that was attached to my body during the job.

I had a weedwacker strapped to my shoulder and chains around my neck. I was holding a hammer and a level and screws (at the same time), all while trying to screw a fragile piece of woodwork into the wall. I was halfway up the stairway during this installation when I dropped (and broke) the woodwork, then began dropping everything in concert. Until I was laying on the ground wondering why all this stuff was attached to me in the first place?

It was incredibly vivid. Enough to wake me up and to remember the next morning.

I hadn’t thought about clutter in quite some time when I was struck with this dream and this meaningful quote. The quote or mantra was drilled into my mind while reading Brendan Burchard’s book, High Performance Habits.

In a world full of distractions and vast information-flow, it’s easy to get away from your main thing. What works for me? Compensatory systems. I create a calendar appointment on my phone for 5:00am — and have it recur daily — until that highest priority is completed. My “main thing” is always similar as it’s directly tied to my main strength and value I provide. However, it is always unique at a task standpoint; hence why I evolve the calendar appointment regularly.

Once I accomplish my main thing for the day, I have a day of focused execution, and with no weedwackers attached to my neck.

So, what is your main thing — and more importantly — how are you prioritizing and attacking it?
